Remdesivir & SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) | Mechanism of Action, Adverse Effects and Overview of Anti-Viral Properties
In this lesson, I discuss the antiviral known as remdesivir, including how it is administered, adverse effects of its use, mechanism of action, and an overview of the antiviral effects remdesivir has on coronaviruses like SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19).
1) Brief Introduction to Remdesivir, including what it is and what it was originally designed to treat
2) Overview of mechanism of Remdesivir’s anti-viral effects on coronaviruses like SARS-CoV-2
3) Summary of some Remdesivir data in in-vitro and in-vivo (mice and rhesus monkeys) studies used in treatment of other coronaviruses like SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV
*DISCLAIMER* All of these mechanisms have ONLY been shown in in-vitro studies (in a cell culture plate), so these mechanisms MAY NOT translate to actual clinical significance in treating humans. Until we have data from a randomized controlled trial in humans, WE DON’T KNOW whether these medications have anti-viral treatment properties (against SARS-CoV-2) in humans or not! This lesson is for information purposes ONLY. Please DO NOT take this medication without consulting a physician. This medication may have serious adverse effects.
***Accusations, insults and threats will ABSOLUTELY NOT be tolerated in the comment section of this video. This video is merely here to PRESENT INFORMATION from the studies quoted in this video – if people have an issue with the data, I would suggest they read over these studies and contact the experimenters/authors of these articles instead of leaving accusatory and inflammatory comments in this comment section****
